Over 200 drivers caught speeding in Lincoln school zones during LPD project

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department ticketed nearly 200 speeders during its back-to-school safety project.
The traffic enforcement project, which focused on school zones, ran from Aug. 14 to Friday.

Additional officers were placed near schools across Lincoln at the beginning of the school year, police said.
During that time frame, officers issued 503 citations and warnings:
- Speeding citations: 195
- Speeding warnings: 33
- Suspended drivers: 6
- Traffic signal citations: 7
- Traffic signal warnings: 1
- Stop sign citations: 4
- Seat belt citations: 42
- Seat belt warnings: 7
- Child restraint citations: 3
- Child restraint warnings: 1
- No insurance citations: 22
- No insurance warnings: 11
- No valid registration citations: 62
- No valid registration warnings: 28
- Other traffic violation citations: 33
- Other traffic violation warnings: 48
On Aug. 15, a day after the enforcement project began, a vehicle drove off after hitting a student in front of Culler Middle School.
The next day, a 14-year-old boy was struck while crossing the road near Eighth and C streets.
