Over 2,000 voters impacted by two polling place changes in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lancaster County election officials on Thursday announced two new polling places ahead of the November election.

Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen said in a press release that the changes are “regrettable and beyond our control.”

“We would not be changing these polling places if it were up to us, he said.

Secretary of State Bob Evnen has approved the changes since they happened between the primary and general elections.

Precinct 10 D-8 voters will now be filling in ballots at the Heartland Bible Church near 56th and Van Dorn streets.  The change impacts about 1,040 voters, election officials estimate.

They previously voted at the Van Dorn Villa, but the facility was damaged in a recent water main break.

In Precinct 12 G-2, voters will head to the polls at Lincoln North Star High School.  Around 1,330 voters are impacted by this change, according to the election office.

The previous polling place, the Nebraska Safety Council building, is now “unwilling” to host election activities, officials said.

Notices of these changes are being sent out to impacted voters on Friday.  Signs will also be used on election day to direct voters to the new polling places.
