Over 34,000 gallons of water used to contain Banner County fire
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Wednesday morning, the Nebraska National Guard gave specifics on the efforts used to contain the wildfire that broke out in Banner County earlier this month.
Many helping hands were sent to Gering to help fight the Smokey Fire and assist with emergency management.
They returned home on Saturday.
The National Guard says the humid and cool conditions helped contain the fire quickly.
Two Blackhawk helicopters provided strong aerial support, dropping over 34,000 gallons of water, the guard said.
The fire burned more than 4,000 acres, but no injuries were reported.
