The Storm Prediction Center has a small portion of southwest Nebraska under a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) with large hail and damaging winds being the main concern.
The latest runs of Stormcast show storms through southwest Nebraska by 11 p.m. MDT/12 a.m. CDT. This complex of storms then moves to the east, where severe potential is expected to decrease.
Forecast:
Forecast low temperatures tonight will be in the lower to middle 60s with winds out of the north that will help cool us off.
High temperatures for much of southeastern Nebraska will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Mostly cloudy skies and a morning shower will be possible, with winds remaining out of the north at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
The Capital City will reach the lower 80s on Saturday, and a morning sprinkle cannot be ruled out. We will see mostly cloudy skies and winds out of the north.
Our average high temperature for this time of year is in the upper 90s, with our record high for tomorrow sitting at 111 degrees. Thankfully, we will stay much cooler than that this weekend. The record single-day precipitation value for July 12 was set back in the late 1880s at just under 2 inches of rain.
For the rest of the forecast ahead, we return to the 90s on Sunday before storm chances return Monday night into Tuesday. Another cool down looks to be on the way next Thursday before temperatures climb again close to average by next weekend.
