Palmyra and Bennet receive $5.4 million grant

Hundreds of people gathered in the Palmyra high school awaiting the acceptance of a gift. The Olson Foundation gave a grant of $5.4 million.

The money will be used toward construction of new activity and recreational activities.

"I think you truly have to see what our kids are using and playing with now to appreciate what they are going to get in the future of this grant and the opportunity it will give them," said Kirsten Mcmann.

Students are currently playing on a grass football field and the track is gravel. The project will include a new baseball facility, an all–weather track, turf football and soccer field and a playground. Palmyra will also receive walking trails.

"I think I’m most excited for the track and the opportunity to host meets," said Elizabeth Harders.

Dr. Leland Olson was a student at the district in the 1930’s. We talked to his son about what this donation from his family means to them.

The Olson Foundation wants to continue the district’s success and was already impressed with how far they have come.

"A community like Palmyra, a small village either grows or it dies and we think that this will help the community grow," said David Olson.

The district is almost done with a recent $8 million renovation to the school. Thanks to this grant, they can now get started on their outdoor facilities.
