Parent concerned over traffic speed around school

UPDATE:
South Coddington Ave. handles a lot of traffic.
It’s also where Roper Elementary School is located.
A parent who wanted to remain anonymous said he has two kids who go to school there. He calls the traffic really bad.
"It’s 40 miles an hour up and down Coddington Street, which is a very major traffic throughway," he said. "So I think that it should be slowed down to 25 because there’s just so many people that travel this section."
He said he’s seen many vehicles drive by the school at high speeds while kids were getting out of school.
"It’s just kinda crazy that nobody as gotten hurt yet."
He said he’d like to see school zone flashing lights put in.
Right now it has buttons at two crosswalks and advanced warning signs leading up to them.
Assistant Director of Transportation Lonnie Burklund said they haven’t had any safety issues or complaints in that area.
"Our data and experience out here tells us that the current measures, the traffic–control devices that we have out here on both South Street and Coddington have been safe," Burklund said.
That’s assuming all kids will cross at those signals.
"I do see some kids try to cross the street while there’s a lot of traffic going," said the concerned parent. "Well if cars slow down to 25 miles an hour, they can stop a little faster."
Burklund said they are doing a school zone study on roper and other areas city wide and they’ll see if they need to add any other safety measures. He said they aim to have that study done by the end of the year.
