LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A patient was found hiding in a pond Tuesday after an assault at a hospital in Bellevue, police say.

Around 2:20 p.m., the patient assaulted a staff member at the Bellevue Medical Center and left the facility.

Officers, with help from an Omaha Police Department helicopter, searched the area for the patient.

About four hours later, officers found the patient in a pond at Willow Lakes Golf Course, police said.

Since they wouldn’t get out of the water, officers used a boat to reach the patient.

Afterward, the patient was taken to a medical facility for a mental health evaluation.

Police said charges are pending.
