Pedaling with confidence: Lincoln named a bicycle-friendly community

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Star City received an award Friday for maintaining cyclists’ safe way of life.
The City of Lincoln accepted the Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community award from the League of American Bicyclists.
This award recognizes the city’s commitment to improving riding conditions for cyclists.
It supports investments in bike education programs, events to promote and encourage cycling, pro-bike policies, and bike infrastructure.
Lincoln first won the silver level award in 2019.
The status remains in place for up to four years, so the city applied for it again in August.
Stephanie Rouse, transportation planner for Lancaster County, said the application requires efforts from multiple city and county departments, including Parks and Recreation and Transportation and Utilities.
“This award is a testament to the dedication of the growing network of bicycle advocates working to make Lincoln a safe and welcoming space for all ages and abilities of bicyclists,” she said.
The League of American Bicyclists’ program sets the benchmark for communities’ progress toward improving biking.
The league looks to help raise standards for safety, equity and accessibility.
