Pedestrian fatalities up 71 percent in Nebraska, according to AAA

According to AAA, pedestrian fatalities are up 71 percent, with 25 deaths, compared to the previous five-year average, and car crash deaths are up two percent in the state, with 228 killed.

Of the people killed, 63 died on urban roadways: 165 on rural roads.

Between January and October of this year, nearly 29,000 traffic accidents were reported in Nebraska.

More than 10,200 resulted in injuries.

That’s why AAA is urging motorists to be extra careful.

AAA urges drivers to never drive impaired, always buckle-up and avoid distractions, like cellphones.

If you’re driving in poor weather, always slow down and increase your following distance.

The Nebraska Dept. of Transportation reports that this is the highest number of pedestrian fatalities since 1983, more than 35 years ago.
