Pence in Nebraska, sees flood devastation

Vice President Mike Pence touched down aboard Air Force Two in Omaha Tuesday afternoon.

He said President Trump sent him with a message.

“We’re with you and the American people are going to stand with people across Nebraska, across Iowa, across all of the eight states that have been impacted by this severe weather and this flooding.”

He was accompanied by Gov. Pete Ricketts and several Nebraska congressmen as he took a brief tour of areas damaged by floods.

But he said he saw more than just destruction while here.  He said he also saw something inspiring after meeting with first responders and visiting flood victims at a shelter in Elkhorn.

“The way communities come together and people volunteer, put themselves in harm’s way to help others,” Pence said.  “It’s just the best of America.”

He said he told Gov. Ricketts that federal aid will be on the way.

Pence was told about the historical flooding that has ravaged many parts of the state..

The floodwaters in Nebraska have killed at least three people and forced hundreds from their homes.

Around 7 p.m., the vice president was back on Air Force Two, en route to Washington, D.C.

Pence was also joined by the governor of Iowa.  That state has also been hit hard by flooding from the Missouri River.
