People came from as far away as Canada for postponed Trump rally in Nebraska

GREENWOOD, Neb. (KLKN) – After thousands of people drove from all over the country to be at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Greenwood on Friday, it was rescheduled due to severe weather.

Prior to the postponement, the parking lot was filling up around 8 a.m. on Friday.  Walking through the parking lot, you saw plates from Texas, Illinois, Iowa, California and even Canada.

“I came from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and it was a 10-hour drive,” Ethan Margolis said.

Tina Garrelts came from Wichita, Kansas.

“I picked up my girlfriend in Topeka,” Garrelts said. “I left Wichita at 4:45 in the morning, picked her up at 7:30 in the morning, and we headed to Nebraska. We couldn’t wait to get here.”

Even though doors weren’t going to open until the evening, many people stood in line all day waiting to get in.

“I don’t care about the wait, “Aden Bosley said. “Rain or shine.”

Those who were from Nebraska were happy to have so many people from other locations.

“It gives me hope actually,” Dianne Forney said.

Luke Kreikemeier was happy that people came to Greenwood “from all over the country, all over the world probably.”

“We are all in support of this movement of getting him back in place and turning this country around and getting rid of the corruption,” he said.

Area businesses have been preparing for this event every day for the last week.

“We had quite a few people in for lunch, sold a few bloody marys,” said Miriam Simpson of Platte Valley Antique Co. “And we had signs made. Originally, I was advertising for people to park here and wait until they get in.”

Even with the high number of people coming in for the rally, many didn’t want to lose their spot in line, so businesses were not as busy as anticipated.

Simpson said she was going to offer a shuttle service.

“But based on business and the weather, we had to cancel that. And so we are just moving on making the best that we can of the challenges.”
