People’s City Mission begins distributing 63,000 shoes collected during campaign

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Cornhusker Bank and People’s City Mission kicked off a shoe distribution Friday after weeks of collecting donations.

The mission’s help center hosted Sole Impact Distribution Day, where guests could shop and choose shoes for themselves or their family. There were also socks and pizza at the event.

The remainder of the shoes will be distributed to needy families who come to the help center.

“This event just means the world to many of our people,” said Pastor Tom Barber, CEO of the mission.

This year, Cornhusker Bank had over 150 sponsors, which collected over 63,000 pairs of shoes for the People’s City Mission.

The Lincoln and Omaha communities were encouraged to donate new and old shoes, or make a monetary donation.

Barber said the number of donations says so much about Lincoln and the generosity of the community.

In the past 15 years, over 347,000 shoes have been donated, and there has been a total of $118,000 in monetary donations.
