People’s City Mission sees more people come in from the heat
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The dangerous heat continued on Thursday, and the People’s City Mission is making sure one of the vulnerable populations, the homeless, is safe.
During this heat wave, the mission is seeing an influx of people.
Pastor Tom Barber, the CEO, said the shelter isn’t at capacity yet, and even if it gets there, it can put cots in the Agape Cafe.
The mission gave out at least 500 bottles of water on Wednesday and expected to give out a similar number Thursday.
As always, it could use more water to keep the supply up.

Barber also said it’s important to make sure that people out on the street know to get shade and cool down.
He said sometimes their judgment is impaired.
“If you see someone who’s homeless, encourage them to get into somewhere cool,” Barber said. “Tell them to come to the mission because we’re obviously taking anybody who wants to come in and cool off.”
The mission is open 24/7 for anyone who needs shelter from the heat.
