Pepe’s Bistro hosts fundraiser for family affected by fire

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two weeks ago, a house fire in Lincoln took everything from the Shannon family, including two of their dogs. But Sunday, the community rallied to support them.

Pepe Fierro, the owner of Pepe’s Bistro in Lincoln, witnessed the fire and saw Shiona Shannon fighting the crowd and firefighters to rescue her dogs from the flames.

One puppy survived the fire, but needed medical attention and is now blind, according to Fierro.

Later, after hearing about the destruction of the Shannon’s family home from a local elementary school, Fierro decided to organize a benefit and give the profits to the family.

All of Sunday’s sales from the restaurant will go to support the family’s rebuilding process.

“There’s a lot going on in the world right now,” Fierro said. “We can’t save everything, but you can do what you can in your own little corner. You may not be able to save it, but you can help bring people together and help that cause.”

Fierro also issued a call to local artists who filled the walls and tables with their artwork for community members to bid on. Those funds will also go to support the family.

People who weren’t able to make it to the benefit or who want to continue to support the family can also make a donation to their GoFundMe.
