LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln shiba inu was named an “honorary fire dog” after it alerted its family to a grass fire in their backyard.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Lincoln Fire & Rescue said Neko’s warning helped get his family to safety before flames spread to a garage.

The warning also helped crews respond to the fire quicker, LFR said.

For the pup’s heroic efforts, LFR awarded Neko with the honorary title, along with a visit to Station 7 and a “well-deserved” treat.
