PHOTOS: Motorhome goes up in flames in northern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A motorhome was destroyed Wednesday night after the pickup truck it was towing erupted into flames.

Around 6:30 p.m., crews were sent to the area of Highway 281 and 855th Road, just outside of Chambers in northern Nebraska.

According to the Chambers Volunteer Fire Department, the initial call came from department members who were driving by.

They tried to curb the flames in the pickup with fire extinguishers before the fire department arrived, and unhooked the pickup from the camper.

Within minutes, the fire spread to the RV, resulting in a total loss of the motorhome and all personal belonging inside, according to the fire department.

First responders shut down Highway 281 for two hours, with one lane reopening around 9 p.m.

The highway was fully reopened around 11 p.m.

According to the fire department, the RV occupants were taken to O’Neill for lodging.
