LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A hog barn was destroyed early Monday morning in a fire at a Pillen Family Farms facility near Humphrey.

Around 3 a.m., the Humphrey Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department was sent to the facility, about 3.5 miles southeast of Humphrey.

According to Humphrey Fire Chief Jeff Brandl, firefighters made an aggressive attack, but because conditions were changing rapidly, strategies were revised quickly.

Due to the unbearable cold and wind chills, additional mutual aid was requested from the Lindsay, Madison, Columbus, Leigh and Monroe Fire Departments.

Roughly 70 first responders remained on scene until 7:30 a.m. to get control of and extinguish the blaze.

According to the fire department, no one was injured in the blaze.

There is no word on how many hogs were lost in the fire.

At this time, Brandl said any damage estimations and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.

Pillen Family Farms was founded in 1993 by now-Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen.
