Pioneers Park Nature Center holds Volunteers Day

In celebration of Earth Day, coming up on April 22nd, the Pioneers Park Nature Center hosted a special Volunteers Day for anyone in the community who wanted to come out and help keep one of Lincoln’s favorite nature attractions in top shape.
“A few years ago we decided to plan specific days to call on the community, and say, ‘hey, if you’re interested, you can come out on this day, no pressure.’ If you like it, you can become one of our long term, regular volunteers which we’d love to have as well,” said Jamie Kelley, a Naturalist at the Pioneers Park Nature Center.
Volunteers helped to clean out unwanted plants and weeds in the park gardens and along the trails.
It allows for the opportunity to give back to the community while enjoying nature at the same time!
“The nature center, people know if they’ve been out, it’s a treasure that we have here as part of Lincoln parks and rec. Sometimes we need those extra people to help us get the work done. It’s amazing what a few volunteers can do in just a couple hours,” said Kelley.
Saturday’s spring cleaning efforts are taking place a few days before Earth Day, a worldwide event focused on preserving the environment.
“If people missed out on today and just want to volunteer, there are certainly more opportunities, just get in touch with people at the nature center and we can match your interests and desires with our needs,” said Kelley.
