Plane hit power line before crashing into Platte River near Fremont, NTSB says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The National Transportation Safety Board provided an update Tuesday on the deadly plane crash near Fremont.

In an email to Channel 8, the NTSB said preliminary information indicates the Cessna 180 aircraft struck a power line before crashing into the Platte River on Friday around 8:15 p.m.

Emergency crews staged at Luther Hormel Memorial Park next to the river, according to a Channel 8 reporter at the scene.

Just after midnight, the bodies of three people were pulled from the river.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as Daniel Williams, 43, of Moundridge, Kansas, 50-year-old Jeff Bittinger and 48-year-old Randy Amrein, both of Fremont.

The NTSB stated that more information will be released in the preliminary report, which is expected to be published within 30 days.
