Pleasant Wednesday, then rain likely Thursday

It’s the boys’ turn for state basketball in Lincoln starting Wednesday morning. It’ll be a pleasant day overall even though we see increasing clouds with the sun only poking through here and there occasionally. Despite that, a southeast breeze will bring temperatures up into the lower 60s by the afternoon.

Although it’ll be a nice day on Wednesday, the more exciting part of the forecast is the increasing chances for rain on Thursday. The last time we saw any measurable around of precipitation over 0.01″ was back on February 3rd.

Rain chances will be increasing Thursday afternoon and especially by the evening hours, expecting more constant rainfall around the evening commute.

This comes as a weak cold front works its way through western Nebraska first Wednesday, then a system depends to our south bring more meaningful precipitation across especially southern Nebraska. Behind the front, cold air will try to work its way in and transition some of the rain to a mix and light snow into early Friday.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of western Nebraska for Thursday morning through Friday morning because of the mixed precipitation expected then possible snow up to 2″.

It is out in western Nebraska that there will be better chances for at least 1″ of accumulating snow. The probability drops off through central Nebraska due to rain mixing in. Most of southeast Nebraska is expected to see rain.

Areas around and south of I-80 are expected to see the most precipitation, with around 0.25 to 0.5″ possible for southeast Nebraska. Again, some of the precipitation through central and western Nebraska will be in the form of some light snow.

We’ll be colder for about a day on Friday with highs in the upper 40s, but it’ll be short-lived. We warm again over the weekend.
