Police detail ‘citywide’ effort to arrest Lincoln homicide suspect
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police have identified the man who was shot and killed Sunday near downtown Lincoln.
In a news conference Tuesday, Police Chief Michon Morrow and Capt. Ben Miller spoke about the “citywide” effort to arrest 41-year-old Timothy Washington.
Just before noon on Sunday, Washington drove up beside 34-year-old Philmoon Kuku and shot him once in the chest near 13th and E streets, according to police.
Kuku was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
About 10 minutes later, Washington drove off from a traffic stop at 17th and O streets and later crashed into a Toyota Highlander at 27th and Y streets.
He then went to an apartment in the area and stabbed a man in the neck and chest, police said.
Miller said Washington accused the victim of owing him money. They were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Washington left and stole the Toyota Highlander, police said.
At around 12:45 p.m., Washington hit a 40-year-old pedestrian and crashed into two vehicles, according to LPD.
Officers said after stealing a Chevy Tahoe at Casey’s near North Cotner Boulevard and Leighton Avenue, Washington led them on a chase.
He eventually crashed into a tree and light pole near Ninth and Benton streets.
Washington tried running away but was quickly taken into custody, police said.
He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Investigators said additional charges will be added at a later date.
