Around 4:40 p.m. on Dec. 19, officers were sent on a welfare check to a home near 12th and New Hampshire streets.

No one answered the door, and officers smelled gas, according to police.

After Lincoln Fire & Rescue shut off the home’s gas, crews entered and found Alaric Harden, 45, and Larry Cole, 76.  Cole was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harden – who was conscious – was taken to a hospital.  Once medically cleared, he was arrested on suspicion of removing or concealing human remains.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide, officials said Monday.  A suspect has not yet been identified.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
