Police identify Omaha officers who shot and killed two men
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Omaha Police on Monday identified the off-duty officers who fatally shot two men.
Capt. Jay Leavitt and Officer Robert Soldo shot Fernando Rodriguez-Juarez and Jonathan Hernandez-Rosales, the Omaha Police Department said.
The officers were moonlighting at a business near 32nd and L streets shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, when there was a nearby “disturbance involving a firearm,” police said.
They shot the two men, who were in an SUV in an alley. Rodriguez-Juarez, 26, and Hernandez-Rosales, 28, were taken to a hospital, where they later died.
Police said a handgun was found in the SUV.
Leavitt has been on the force for over 25 years, according to OPD. The department said Soldo joined 8½ years ago.
OPD said the officers will be interviewed on Tuesday.
Police are looking for witnesses who were at Extasis Night Club during the shooting.
Anyone who was there but has not yet talked to police is asked to call 402-444-5656.
Police plan to hold a press conference at 1 p.m. Thursday.
