Around 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 24, first responders were sent to Pioneers Boulevard between 33rd Street and Nebraska Parkway.

According to LPD, 23-year-old Haileigh Kapke was driving her 2014 red Nissan Versa Note west on Pioneers Boulevard.

She was headed toward Nebraska Parkway when she struck Lund, who was crossing the road in the crosswalk.

Lund was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, including a brain bleed, according to LPD.

LPD said the crash will now be investigated as a motor vehicle homicide.

The Lancaster County Attorney’s Office has been notified of Lund’s passing and has agreed to postpone charging Kapke on the citation issued last week for failure to yield, to allow for further investigative efforts.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call LPD at 402-441-6000. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
