Police impersonator scam leaves woman out $785

A 19-year-old woman paid a scammer $785 in Money Pak giftcards after he called her and claimed to be a detective with the Lincoln Police Department, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

Police said the man told her she owed money for missing jury duty and she would be arrested if she didn’t pay. 

Police said she first send the $785 Money Pak cards, the sent another $800 in Visa gift cards before realizing it was a scam. She was able to cancel the Visa cards, but not the Money Pak cards. 

Lincoln Police will never call you demanding money.
