Police investigating string of ATM vandalisms across Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department is investigating a series of early Tuesday morning ATM vandalisms.

The first vandalism was reported around 3:50 a.m. at Union Bank & Trust near 70th Street and Pioneers Boulevard.

Police said an ATM at the bank was found “heavily damaged, dented and non-functional.”  There was an estimated $45,000 in damage.

Surveillance video showed a silver Hyundai sedan arrive, and two men — wearing black clothing and masks — tried prying open the ATM.

They also hit the ATM with a sledgehammer, according to police.

Another ATM near 52nd and O streets was reported vandalized about 10 minutes later.

The ATM and safe doors had damage “consistent with being stuck with a sledgehammer and pry marks,” police said.

Around 5 a.m., officers found a Union Bank ATM near North 48th and Holdrege streets with a broken lower panel.

Investigators recovered a sledgehammer at the scene.  The ATM had $5,000 in damage, according to police.

Security video showed two men arriving in a silver Hyundai sedan at Union Bank.  The license plate number is “8993ACH.”
