Police thank man who helped officer with ‘unruly suspect’ in Grand Island

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Grand Island Police Department enlisted the public’s help on Thursday in thanking a man who helped an officer with an arrest.

In a post on Facebook, the agency said the then-unidentified man aided an officer with an “unruly suspect” near Fourth Street and Broadwell Avenue on Wednesday.

With the man’s help, the officer was able to get handcuffs on the suspect safely.

But before officers could get the man’s name, he had walked away.

“We would like to find him and thank him for his willingness to jump into action and help our sergeant,” police said in the Facebook post.

A few hours later, the department got its wish.

GIPD identified the good Samaritan as Lito Quinones, a Special Forces operator in the U.S. Army.

He told police he didn’t think twice about helping the sergeant.

Quinones will receive formal recognition at a Grand Island City Council in the future, the department said.

“Thank you to everyone who helped us find him!” police said on Facebook.
