Police Standoff In Crete

A motel in Crete was the center of a police standoff late Sunday afternoon.

Officers surrounded the Crete Inn because a woman called police saying she was worried a former, disgruntled employee with a history of mental illness would cause harm to other people at the motel.

Chief of Polic Steve Hensel said, “We heard that there was a gentleman waiting in his room with a handgun waiting for another resident in another room and what was going to happen then we didn't know.”

Police tried contacting the man inside the room on the phone, with a  megaphone, cell phone and flashbang, but got no answer and had to force their way in.

They found the man sleeping.

There have been no arrests but police did detain the man and his wife.

There were no injuries.
