Police: Teen stole two Kia Souls in one night in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A teenage boy stole two vehicles Monday night in Lincoln, police say.
The investigation began just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, when officers responded to a crash near 12th and Garfield streets.
They found a 2019 Kia Soul abandoned there. Police said the vehicle had hit a curb, deflating both passenger tires.

A witness told police that a male in a light-colored hoodie had run from the crash.
Later, an officer nearby saw someone matching that description driving a 2018 Kia Soul.
Officers pulled over the driver, a 17-year-old boy, and saw that the rear window was broken and the steering column had been tampered with.

Police think the boy stole the 2019 Kia sometime after 6:30 p.m. Monday near West S Street and Surfside Drive. That vehicle was valued at $6,700.
The teen stole the 2018 Kia, which was worth $7,000, sometime after 9:10 p.m. near 14th and Sumner streets, police said.
He was taken to the Lancaster County youth detention center on suspicion of two counts of theft by unlawful taking.
