LATEST: Power restored to Waverly residents, schools

Crews have restored power to hundreds in the Waverly area after a power outage Tuesday afternoon.

“A concrete truck had hit some overhead lines in Waverly so we were not sure of the details, it sounds like his boom may have been up, it tore some overhead lines on 144th and Amberly Road, right in front of the Waverly High School,” said LES, Rachael Barth.

LES says 366 customers lost power.

LES says Waverly Middle School lost power, and school officials told Channel 8 Eyewitness News that Waverly High School also lost power.

Roads near the high school were blocked off because of downed power lines.

Students were dismissed at their normal times, school officials said.

Unfortunately, the truck did a lot of damage so a second set of LES crews and the environmental team came later on to make sure everything is repaired.

“A couple of the transformers leaked so it’s kind of all hands on deck, a couple more crews just rolled in so it’s going to be a long night,” said Barth.
