Pre-employment job fair for people with disabilities held at Lancaster Event Center

On Tuesday, student job seekers with disabilities got the chance to build essential skills to stand out in the work force.

“I found out it’s a great way to show people that I’m ready to work,” said Spencer Stinson, a high school student from Crete, Nebraska.

Stinson was one of hundreds of students interested in developing job-oriented abilities.

They ranged from interview skills, how to dress for success and even knowing various floral arrangements.

In total, there were 50 businesses there, recruiting for the future.

Event organizers say it’s one of the best chances to get a resume in front of them.

“I think it’s wonderful to learn how to dress for a job, how to interview, how to do some of these skills and learn more about what is actually entailed in working for this business,” said Mary Matusiak, Program Director, Nebraska Vocational Rehabilitation.

The event was held at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln.

This is the sixth year it’s been put on by businesses in the area.

Event organizers say it has continued to grow over the years.

On Tuesday, 240 students were in attendance.
