Preview of Republican candidates in key elections

Republican U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, Congressmen Jeff Fortenberry, and Adrian Smith all hope and expect to retain their current seats.

Fischer is hoping the red hot economy will prevent any democrats from winning any of the republican held senate and house seats in Nebraska.

“The economy is doing great, last quarter we saw 4.2 percent of GDP, we see a low unemployment rate of 3.7, and in Nebraska we are at I think 2.8 right now, we’ve seen 1.8 million new jobs created in the country in the last year, and consumer confidence is at it’s highest in 18 years,” said Deb Fischer.

Congressman Fortenberry is running for his eighth term as he tries to continue to stay on track with his main goal.

“Well my focus will remain America’s national security, our economic security, and family security. Keeping you safe is an essential priority of the government. Setting up the guard rails so that there can be hope and real opportunity particularly for small businesses,” said Jeff Fortenberry.

Governor Pete Ricketts will be watching election results at the Regency Marriot in Omaha along with Congressman Don Bacon.

He is now running for his second term as the Nebraska Governor, one major issue this election year is property taxes.

Congressman Adrian Smith represents the third congressional district in western Nebraska, and he has held that seat since 2007.

Representative Smith’s biggest issues coming into election night is trying to deliver tax reform, protecting the second amendment, and trying to end the current tariff war.

National pundits and polls show Nebraska’s republicans should hold their seats after today’s midterm elections.

Channel 8 Eyewitness News will be standing by live all night long as election results come in and we’ll be speaking to the candidates throughout the evening.
