Quiet for the rest of Wednesday
After an active morning of storms and severe weather, sunshine will dominate for the second half of Wednesday. While we cannot rule out a spotty shower or two, the overall chances are fairly low. We will otherwise be dry, with a high temperature in the mid-80s in Lincoln.
Skies will turn mostly clear by Wednesday evening, and they’ll remain that way overnight. We expect a low into Thursday morning in the low to mid-60s.
Highs on Thursday should be a little bit warmer, and storm chances will return. We’ll be watching some thunderstorm development in western Nebraska during the morning. A few of these will sneak into eastern Nebraska through the rest of the morning and afternoon on a scattered basis.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of western Nebraska under a slight (Level 2/5) risk for severe weather on Thursday, with a marginal (Level 1/5) risk extending into eastern Nebraska. Thus, the highest severe weather chances on Thursday will be to the west, although we can’t rule out a spotty severe storm or two farther east.
Damaging winds and hail will be the primary concern with any severe storms in the state on Thursday. A tornado or two is also possible, but primarily in western Nebraska. There is still time for the details to change regarding Thursday’s storm potential, so be sure to check back on Wednesday night and Thursday morning for further updates.
Scattered storms also appear possible into Friday, and I won’t rule out some strong to severe storms then either. The hope is that we’ll stray away from the severe weather and just see some beneficial rain across the area.
