Rain chances stick around into Saturday
Storms were a bit nicer to southeast Nebraska on Friday morning, with just about everyone avoiding intense wind and hail. Despite less severe weather, the storms were big rainmakers. Lincoln was able to see over 1″ of rain early Friday – a healthy dose for sure.
The rain becomes less widespread on Friday morning. Nevertheless, there will be some scattered showers passing through the state. As a result, we’re including a scattered storm chance through the morning and into the afternoon.
It will not be raining at every point. During the dry periods, skies will be mostly cloudy with the sun poking through at times. Highs will be a touch cooler, in the mid to upper-80s in Lincoln.
As we head into Friday night, we will be watching a storm complex moving through Kansas. We will be on the northern fringes of that system, resulting in an overnight storm chance along and south of the I-80 corridor.
A couple of storms may end up on the stronger side on Friday afternoon and evening. And the severe weather threat doesn’t necessarily go away overnight. While it does not look like we’ll see a lot of widespread severe weather, a few storms could result in damaging winds and/or large hail.
A slight (Level 2/5) severe weather risk is in place along and south of I-80 for Friday and Friday night.
Storms will continue to hang around on Saturday for quite some time, so rain does appear likely for the first half of the weekend. That will also result in much cooler temperatures. We’re looking at 70s for highs on Saturday. However, sunshine returns along with temperatures back up to near 90° on Sunday.
