Rain ending, then break in storms until late Friday

Severe storms brought some hail and very strong winds into southeast Nebraska early on Thursday. Some of the strongest wind gusts nearby were measured at these locations:

  • 72 mph (1:27AM) – Davenport
  • 62 mph (2:13AM) – Western
  • 60 mph (3:00AM) – Firth
  • 58 mph (2:47AM) – Hickman

Rain totals amounted to over a half inch in many locations (measuring since midnight up to 7 a.m. Thursday).

As Of 7am

Rain will be clearing out and then we’re left with some lingering cloud cover to make for another cooler day that’s seasonable for this time of year. Temperatures will slowly rise back to the mid and upper 60s. Clearing skies are generally expected later this evening.

Thur Planner

A much-needed break from severe weather will come the rest of Thursday and most of Friday.

Strong storms by Friday afternoon will develop in western and southwestern Nebraska, moving eastward for eastern Nebraska late Friday and into Saturday along a front.

At this point, there is a Marginal risk for southwest Nebraska where the stronger storms will play out. We’ll be monitoring for any updates to this as we get closer to that event.

Late Fri Spc

If you’re looking for a decent break for mowing the lawn, Friday will be your best bet in the coming days. Saturday morning will be a wet one with lingering storms and soggy conditions from overnight heavy rain. Sunday’s chances for showers is on the lower end.

Mow Forecast

The next potential round of a higher end severe risk will come by next Monday for eastern Nebraska.
