Rain possible through Saturday morning…

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Gage and Pawnee counties. This watch is set to expire at 7AM on Saturday morning. It is important to clarify that a Flash Flood Watch DOES NOT mean that Flash Flooding is occurring right now. Rather, the potential is there for flash flooding through 7AM Saturday. In other words, we’ll be watching for Flash Flood Warnings.

Flash Flood Watch

Rain chances increase as early as Thursday afternoon. A few showers may fire across southeast Nebraska by 5PM Thursday. Most activity appears to develop slightly south and east of Lincoln, but the storms will be close enough to introduce a chance for a shower or storm in Lincoln Thursday evening.

Mb Stormcast

The storms will move off to the east by Thursday evening, but we cannot rule out an isolated storm mainly south and east of Lincoln.

I’m thinking that any storm activity overnight will reside more on the Kansas side. Storms will likely drift into our western counties overnight Thursday, but I do not anticipate those to make their way to Lincoln in the overnight hours.

Stormcast

Another round of showers and storms is possible tomorrow night which could bring some additional rainfall.

To reiterate, most rain will fall south and east of Lincoln Thursday night. Lincoln will have a better chance to see rain Friday and Friday night. Stormcast shows the potential for over an inch of rain falling in and around Lincoln through Saturday morning.

Mb Stormcast Precip Accum

I think that most locations WILL NOT see over an inch of rain. The more likely scenario is that many will see at least some rainfall some seeing localized pockets of higher rainfall totals. These localized pockets could see a few inches of rainfall, and we’ll likely see more of those pockets to the south and east of Lincoln…hence, the Flash Flood Watch for Gage and Pawnee counties!

While I think that most will get by without seeing any Flash Flood Warnings, should you find yourself under a warning, please keep the following in mind:
