Rain returns overnight; Could be heavy at times

An area of low pressure is spinning over eastern Kansas Wednesday evening.  Ahead of the low, moisture is streaming north, in the form of rain and thunderstorms.  Severe storms have been reported in portions of eastern Missouri as of Wednesday evening.

As the low moves further east, moisture will begin to swing around the north side of the low, moving east to west through Iowa and in to eastern Nebraska.  Rain will continue to spread westward in to the Channel 8 viewing area during the overnight.

The majority of the rain should fall east of a line from Columbus to Seward to Crete to Beatrice.  As you can see from the image below, computer models are projecting hefty amounts of rain, not just Wednesday night, but throughout the day Thursday.  Keep in mind the precipitation accumulation forecast is through 8 p.m. Thursday.

The heaviest of the rain should fall during the overnight hours in to Thursday morning.  As we go through Thursday, scattered showers will continue to overspread portions of southeast Nebraska.

This also means much of the area will be blanketed with clouds.  The clouds will help keep temperatures down, especially for far eastern portions of the state.  Places like Lincoln and Columbus will struggle to get out of the 40°s.  However, the farther west you go clouds will thin, with skies turning mostly sunny in Kearney.  Temperatures will respond accordingly, with high temperatures reaching the middle 60°s.
