Rain returns to southeast Nebraska Thursday

Mother Nature appears to be making up for the last couple months when it comes to the precipitation department.  In the previous four days Lincoln has received 2.00″ of rain with some locales picking up over 4″ of rain.  We’ll add to those totals Thursday.

A cold front is projected to cross Nebraska Thursday and Friday morning.  Ahead of the front, low level moisture will provide a humid air mass to fuel thunderstorms, especially Thursday afternoon and Thursday night.

Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible throughout the day in the central part of the state.  Rain chances increase for eastern Nebraska as we move in to the late afternoon and evening.

While showers and thunderstorms will likely be ongoing as we move in to Thursday evening, short range computer models are suggesting a line of thunderstorms developing Thursday evening.  The storms are then projected to dive southeast Thursday night.

Due to the amount of low level moisture, if you get caught under a thunderstorm you could get a heavy downpour, producing a lot of rain in a short period of time.

The threat for severe thunderstorms does not look to be high, it is also not zero.  The main threat will be damaging wind, small hail, and heavy downpours.
