Rain, scattered storms Monday in eastern Nebraska before trending cooler this week
A strong system lifting to the northeast today will produce efficient rainfall through eastern Nebraska this Monday.
Moderate to heavy rain will be more widespread during the later morning hours into the early afternoon. Then, that activity breaks apart into scattered thunderstorms this afternoon into the evening of Monday.
There is a very small chance to see severe weather with what scattered storms develop into the afternoon (mainly a few isolated wind gusts).
Southeast Nebraska was included in a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk since the morning show. Primary threats will be a few isolated, stronger wind gusts and perhaps a brief tornado south of I-80 this afternoon into the evening. Stay weather aware today!
Everything should clear out by late Monday/very early Tuesday morning. And by that time, rain will amount to 1-2″ for many that really need it.
Specifically breaking down the timing, showers fill in across southeast Nebraska toward 9-10 a.m. Monday morning. Most of the rain will fall from that point into the early afternoon hours.
Looking toward the evening commute, scattered storms will be in the area until chances drop off by Monday night.
Temperatures will still warm into the upper 50s, namely by the evening timeframe. More of a “muggy” feel with these temperatures will also be possible as the dew point rises.
Winds will also increase and gust out of the east/southeast this afternoon, potentially around 30-35 mph.
The end of this week is still trending cooler and below normal for temperatures, but it won’t be as cold as these days were looking last week. Winds are expected to be very blustery on Wednesday, potentially gusting around 40-45 mph out of the northwest.
So Wednesday and Thursday will be the cooler-feeling days of this week, despite more sunshine by then.
