Rain still possible Sunday evening; Fall-like on Monday
Some cloud to ground (CG) lightning strikes early Sunday morning were loud, but heavy rain accompanied the thunderstorms that moved through Lancaster County and many spots east. This time, the airport rain gauge picked up a lot of rain, bringing totals through 8 a.m. Sunday to over 1″.
The latest thoughts with the severe risk for Sunday evening have been trending down. Our area was dropped to a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk largely due to cloud cover seen throughout the day. Storms are still a good possibility, but thankfully the severe aspect doesn’t look to be much at play anymore.
Coverage is still uncertain with these storms, with latest models removing some of the widespread possibilities seen in previous runs (like the older run seen below). Don’t count them out by any means, but there’s a chance that some of us will be missed altogether.
Many models still showing that storms will move through eastern Nebraska after 3 p.m., clearing the state by about 9 p.m. Lincoln’s best chances come by 4 p.m., hoping to tack on even more rain from what we saw early Sunday morning.
Coming up next, much cooler weather for the start of this week as Monday’s temperatures will linger in the middle and upper 70s. At this point in the year, another taste of fall after some good rain is more than welcome.
Winds will be out of the northwest overnight and through the day on Monday, with a good breeze in store for us. Gusts could be around 30 mph for a good part of the afternoon.
And enjoy the cooler weather while you can, as next weekend it appears summer will be rearing its ugly head in full form once again.
