Ramping up the heat through midweek
We saw a cooler day on Sunday with highs back in the 80s for a change. A front came through Saturday, leaving behind gusty winds with a system nearby causing strong northwest winds through much of eastern Nebraska.
Wind gusts were as high as 40 to close to 45 mph in some areas, with data from local airports showing some higher gusts below:
The rest of Sunday into early Monday will see winds die down beneath clear skies. Temperatures will be falling to the lower 60s and eventually upper 50s for most of us to kick of the first morning of the last week of June.
After recording 14 days of 90s so far for June, another one will be coming up for Monday. Tons of sunshine is expected, and lighter winds out of the northwest about 10-15 mph, gusting at times to 25 mph. We’ll see some ridging come back into play in the upper levels, allowing us to warm day by day.
But with the heat and, at times, breezy conditions, all will be further impacting our drought conditions. So with the Fourth nearing, it’ll be critical to practice safety this holiday with any fireworks and plans. For more information, we looked into more tips in this story below:

Rain chances will return late Tuesday into Wednesday, with better chances coming Thursday into Friday.
But on Wednesday, not only do we have the chance to see our hottest temperatures yet, but a humid airmass will combine to give us heat indices nearing triple digits.
