‘Really frustrating’: Lincoln businesses hit hard by snowstorms, cold temps
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Many Lincoln businesses had to close their doors last week because of snowstorms and cold temperatures.
Nick Maestas, the owner of Muchachos, said the weather hit his restaurant hard.
“It was really, really frustrating,” he said. “Obviously, there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Maestas said the decision to close was difficult since his employees worked fewer hours. He said payroll was one-third of what it normally is.
And the business also lost some of its products.
“From our truck, we had to throw the majority of it away, so we lost $2,500 just in product that couldn’t use,” Maestas said.
Birria Boss was another business that had to close because of weather. Its owner said he had to get creative to attract people despite the cold weather.
“We just added something new to the menu to try to excite people to get back in here,” Jordan Jackson said.
That was the Birri-Yaki wings, chicken wings with a combination of birria and teriyaki sauce.
Both Jackson and Maestas ask the community to continue to support local businesses now that the weather is better.
They said you can do so by eating and shopping local, or even by sharing their posts on social media.
