RECALL ALERT: Toy guns, birdbaths recalled due to fire hazards

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Manufacturers issued recalls on Thursday for toy guns and birdbaths that pose a risk of fire.

A toy gun was recalled after the manufacturer, Gel Blaster, received 30 reports of smoking or fire near the handle, where the battery is located.  The company said no injuries have been reported from the defect.

The Gel Blaster SURGE Model 1.0 was sold in stores and online nationwide from August 2020 through October 2021 for $60.

Gel Blaster is contacting known purchasers directly. Consumers that have not been contacted are encouraged to call or email the company to receive a prepaid mailer.

Once the product is returned, consumers will receive a full refund.

Backyard Nature Products recalled select birdbaths after receiving reports that the product caused overheating, smoking, fire and scorching to homes’ decking and siding.

The baths were sold in large retail stores and online nationwide from January 2010 through May 2022 for around $40.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled acrylic bird baths and contact the manufacturer to return them and receive a full refund.  The company will email prepaid shipping labels or send them by mail.

The recall involves Birds Choice hanging and pole-mounted acrylic birdbaths, which were sold in red, yellow and clear colors. The 14-inch-diameter birdbath includes a hanging chain and hook and pole mount.
