Red Cross: Winter one of worst time for heating fires

As cold weather hits the American Red Cross is reminding people that heating is the second leading cause of home fires.
The peak months are December through February.
There’s two easy ways to protect yourself and your family.
First, create a a fire escape plan and practice it, finding a safe place to meet as well.
The second, installing smoke detectors and checking them regularly.
Fire experts say that sometimes you can have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home.
The Red Cross responds to 64,000 disasters a year, and most are fires.
