LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska basketball transfer Ahron Ulis has been accused of tampering with records to place sports wagers while at Iowa.

The Gazette – a newspaper in Cedar Rapids, Iowa – reported that the former Hawkeye placed about 1,850 sports wagers, according to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday.

In the complaint obtained by The Gazette, investigators said Ulis used his brother’s name to disguise his bets.

Ulis, who transferred to Nebraska earlier this year, also placed at least one bet on an Iowa sporting event.

In total, Ulis placed over $34,000 in wagers, according to the complaint.

According to the NCAA’s policy on sports wagering violations, Ulis could permanently lose eligibility.

In a Zoom meeting Wednesday afternoon, head coach Fred Hoiberg said the Huskers were unaware of the gambling when they recruited Ulis.

Right now, Ulis – who is in Spain with the Huskers – will continue to practice with the team as the investigation continues, Hoiberg said.

Ulis is sitting out from the games in Spain.

“We’ll continue to cooperate as well as we can through this and just take it from there,” Hoiberg said.

Last season, Ulis started in 27 games for the Hawkeyes, averaging 6.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
