LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska has found its next defensive coordinator, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Sunday night.

The Huskers have agreed to a three-year deal with San Diego State’s Rob Aurich as the team’s new defensive coordinator, Thamel reported.

In a post on X, Thamel noted that Aurich helped San Diego State finish No. 5 in scoring defense with 12.6 points per game.

Aurich joined the staff at San Diego state in 2024 as the defensive edges coach.  The next season, he was named the defensive coordinator.

The hiring comes after Nebraska fired defensive coordinator John Butler.

The Huskers’ season finished with lopsided losses to Penn State and Iowa.

Nebraska is set to face off against Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
