Residential roads are still a problem area for the city

The snow stopped falling late Saturday night, and a lot of people in Lincoln we’re still shoveling snow on Tuesday.

At a press conference on Tuesday, officials said city crews have been able to make it to every residential street at least once.

But some of them are still difficult to navigate.

One small business owner says the traffic delays that come with snowy roads has negatively impacted her.

“I had a client that was over an hour late getting here yesterday, which puts me behind an hour. I think it’s bad that the roads are so bad on highway 2 that they had to drive so slow to get here,” said Denise Welch, a small business owner and tax preparer.

The city says the freezing rain that came before Saturday’s blizzard has made scraping the roads challenging.

Commuters on Monday and Tuesday morning were taking up to 3 to 4 times as long to get to where they need to go.

“It took an hour to get from the south side of town to here which is a very long drive you know, kids were late for school, it wasn’t good, it’s not good at all,” said Welch.

Cars are still being asked to not park on the odd numbered side of the street.

The even side parking ban was lifted on Monday.

Some areas that have gone untreated, like alley ways and parking lots, are beginning to pose problems as well.

“Down in the Haymarket, there are some alleys that have a foot deep in snow, and you can’t drive all the way through, you have to try to back out of it so it’s a real pain,” said Jeff Fredrick.

Fredrick was forced to call in a complaint due to where plowed snow ended up.

“I had to call the city and complain yesterday because a property we own in the Haymarket, we couldn’t reach our parking space because the alley was blocked by a big snow pile from when they cleared the street off,” said Fredrick.
