‘Rest in peace to a legend’: Husker Nation takes to social media to honor Greg Sharpe’s legacy
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Greg Sharpe’s voice was a mainstay for many Nebraska fans over the last 17 years.
After the news broke Saturday morning, many people turned to social media to offer their memories and condolences.
He left a lasting impact on the fans who tuned into football and baseball radio broadcasts.
Ben McLaughlin, a play-by-play announcer for Nebraska baseball, sharing a photo of an empty seat on X:
One extra chair tonight, even though he’s already got the best seat in the house.

Not only did the voice of the Huskers make an impact on the lives of fans, but he also was an integral figure for the players on the field at Haymarket Park and Memorial Stadium.
Many of the athletes sharing on social media some of the ways Sharpe touched their lives through his work.

On our Now Local News app, Melanie said she was devastated to wake up and hear the news.
“I was sad this morning to hear about the passing of Greg Sharpe,” she said. “You’ll just never forget his voice. You knew that you were in for a real ride when you heard him. His excitement really drew you in or when things were going bad, he was there as a reassuring voice that really added something to the game and I think we’ll all definitely miss that.”
Sharpe’s family thanked the Husker community for the outpouring of love over the past year while he’s battled pancreatic cancer.
One thing is for certain; Husker Nation won’t forget about Sharpe’s cosmic impact.
