Retired LPD Captain speaks at annual MLK Jr. Freedom Breakfast

Friday morning, hundreds of community members gathered at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln for the 26th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Breakfast.
The keynote address was delivered by retired Lincoln Police Captain Genelle Moore.
Moore was the first black woman officer hired to the force back in 1982.
She spoke about facing adversity in that role, and how we all need to remember the teachings of the late Reverend King.
“Our skin may be different colors, we may come from different places, we may speak different languages, but we all want a life that is a quality life,” said Moore.
The MLK Breakfast Committee also awarded scholarships to seven Lincoln high school seniors.
Among the recipients were Cindy A Le from Northeast High School, Devan Buescher from East High School, Cynthia Figueroa from North Star High School, Sirila Herrera from Lincoln High, Fawaz Khaleel Hasan from Northeast High School, Haileigh Lowell from Northeast High School, and Say Paw from Lincoln High.
The event was put on by Lincoln Public Schools, Southeast Community College, University of Nebraska, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
