Rhule unsure of starting quarterback as turnovers continue haunting Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football is unsure who will be the starting quarterback in the road game against Wisconsin this week.
Heinrich Haarberg and Chubba Purdy were injured in Saturday’s loss against Maryland, while Jeff Sims is healthy, Matt Rhule said Monday.
“So we’ll go through the week and probably come all the way up to game time in terms of, you know, who will play,” he said.
Rhule said the Huskers are going into the game with a “diverse plan” for whoever takes snaps under center.
Haarberg, Purdy and Sims all saw playing time in last week’s game. All three of them threw at least one interception.
As of Monday, the Huskers lead the nation in turnovers lost with 27, including 14 interceptions.
“We can’t keep throwing balls up,” Rhule said. “And we can’t just throw balls up to a spot thinking the guy is going to be there.”
Nebraska has two games remaining and needs one more win to be eligible for a bowl game.
Rhule thinks the Huskers fixed ball security in the pocket but will now need to focus on curbing interceptions.
“We just keep working and hope that it just continues to come to fruition,” Rhule said. “Build on the good things and try to eliminate the bad things.”
